There is a nasty virus making its rounds that makes it appear all your pictures, documents and music are missing. Don’t fret. They’re just hidden. Click on this link to download a utility that can help *unhide* all your files. Click here to download

Once you download the compressed file, run the “unhideall.bat” file. You’ll see a lot of text scroll by as it unhides every file on your hard drive. Wait until its finishes (it will stop scrolling text) then check to see if your files are back.

There is a new strain making its rounds that will also MOVE all your shortcuts from the start menu to another location. After the virus is removed and all files are unhidden, you’ll still be left with empty start menu items. If you are using Windows XP, click start, run, “c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp\” (substitute USERNAME with your account name). If using Windows Vista or 7 then click on start, run, (or press the windows key and ‘r’) “c:\users\USERNAME\appdata\local\temp”. Once this folder is open, you should see another folder called smtmp or smtemp. There will be subfolders inside of this which will contain all your start menu items.
